We would like to wish you all a happy 2018 and hope that you enjoyed a relaxing (!) festive season.
Firstly we would like to say a massive thank you for everyone who helped us achieve so much in 2017. It is wonderful to see our scout group going from strength to strength, and it is fair to say that the scout hall and grounds are in a considerably better state than this time last year, even though we still have much to do!
A few of us were lucky enough to be able to find platform 9 ¾ and attend the 1st Thirsk Hogwarts Camp in November last year. Everyone had a truly magical time! -Wand Making, Quidditch playing, Potions, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures to mention just a few of the activities.
A massive thanks goes out to Professor McGonagall and her merry band of helpers.
Our regular sessions have been equally exciting this term as well – Councillor Dadd came to talk about UK Parliament week, Cleveland Mountain Rescue team put our scouts through their paces, and our cubs worked on their first aid skills and took park in the county quiz.
Please do have a look at the facebook page for all the news and pictures of what our members are getting up to each week (the video of the cubs playing hungry hippos is definitely worth a watch!)
Last year we raised over £1500 towards the scout hall renovations – this included the Tesco bag pack, market stall, mini-mudder, Thirsk and Sowerby festival and the car boot sales. Thank you to each and everyone who sponsored, donated, volunteered and supported these events. It is already making a difference to all of the members and we will be planning a working weekend again this summer - information will be provided nearer the time.
We are still waiting to hear the results of the Tesco Blue Token scheme – thank you so much for supporting this and we will let you know when we know!
If you have any ideas for future fundraising activities or have any skills that might be put to good use to aid our renovation projects then please do get in touch.
Our AGM will be taking place after Beavers on Wednesday 28/2/18 at 7pm in the scout hall. If you are at all interested in joining the executive committee then please do come along and find out more about what is involved. We would value any thoughts and contributions you may have on how we can improve the scout group.
Chair: Bonnie Kendall has been our chair since Sept 2016 and it is fair to say that she has been instrumental in giving the group a renewed energy and drive. Bonnie will be stepping down at the AGM and will be hugely missed. The role of chair is a big commitment but a rewarding one too – if you think you, or some one you know, would be interesting in taking on this challenge and helping us to ensure the future of 1st Thirsk scouts then please do get in touch.
Treasurer: Susan Thomson has been involved with 1st Thirsk Scout for 10 years and is stepping down from her current position as Treasurer at the AGM. We are so thankful for all the time and dedication Susan has given this role, and we will miss her tremendously. We are fortunate to say that Sue Hodgson has volunteered to step in to this role and we look forward to welcoming her at the AGM.
As always please be considerate of the local residents when you are dropping of or picking up your children. Please ensure that access routes are not blocked, and that if stopping in the layby please pull up as far as your can to allow others to come in behind you. Many thanks.
If you are interested in supporting our group in any way, be it on the executive committee or as a regular helper for any of our sections then please do not hesitate to speak to any one of us.
Have a wonderful term,
1st Thirsk Scouts Executive Committee
